WARNING: Great for Sinus, Great for Inflammation...but BAD for Knuckles?
"Serrapeptase seems like a miracle supplement that addresses many needs: Sinuses, joints, internal & external scars, and arteries. I tried some low dose Serrapeptase over the years but didn't notice anything until I took the very high dose like found in this Doctor's Best brand, (which is explicitly labeled for sinuses).
Then, BANG - miracle relief of decade long sinus infections and stuffiness - better than pills, neti and steroids. I didn't particularly notice any other touted benefits from it, including my joints, but I was still excited to email a fellow health-challenged friend about it.
He tried it and, BANG, he didn't notice any sinus benefits, but noticed incredible relief of his own systemic inflammation and told others about it too.
THEN, a few moths later, as I still rhapsodized to him about it, I casually mentioned how I suddenly got a large, unsightly ganglion on my thumb. I've had a painful, knuckle cyst condition for decades, so it wasn't unexpected - but it was a little more drastic. And the Serrapeptase didn't seem to make any headway in "digesting" the fluid in the bump.
He immediately chimed in that HE TOO got TWO "Blowouts" and bumps on his knuckles, and NEVER had that problem before. He said he read someone online saying Serrapeptase caused them a similar problem. He quit Serrapeptase immediately.
Now, I become a little confused, since Serrapeptase is supposed to be "good for joints." But I got scared enough to taper off of it, and began looking into other enzymes for sinuses (without great results). I lately even tried putting pure Serrapeptase in a nasal solution .
Flash-forward over a year later. My friend writes that he's trying Serrapeptase again because hardly nothing else worked so well for his inflammation. Again, he had great results, until - BANG - another painful, unsightly & permanent bump / bone spur on his finger. He finally threw his bottle away.
Meanwhile, I finally go see a Hand Specialist to have my huge, annoying thumb cyst drained. He afterward casually mentioned to keep it compressed for the next few weeks to heal - and FORM A SCAR - over the internal leak to prevent a typical re-occurrence.
BANG! It now becomes clear to me that at least for some conditions, INTERNAL SCARRING is needed for healing and prevention. If you suspect you have a similar ondition, my may think twice about using any of the so-called "scar removing and breakdown unwanted protein" enzymes (including Serrapeptase, and possibly Nattokinase, Seaprose, Bromelain, Serrazymes, etc).
It's too bad, because it truly was a "Miracle" enzyme for the other big issues my friend and I had."
